Which Hummingbird Fish Finder I Liked the Most
So far, I've been using three Hummingbird Fish Finders. I have to say I've been quite happy with the performance of each one of them. The first Hummingbird Fish Finder that I've tried was the cheapest one I could find. I didn't even buy it new, I got it from ebay for 80 bucks. It was sort of a test out. I wanted to learn a bit about the Hummingbird Fish Finders' utility.
My experience with the 325 unit
Although this first Humminbird unit that I've tried, the Humminbird 325, was quite basic, with a small 320 x 240 screen, black and white, it was quite reliable for finding fish. Had a down range of 1000 ft or so and I must say it helped me detect quite a few big ones in the four fishing trips I took it out.
Even if it doesn't have any navigational features, this is a great Hummingbird unit for finding fish. I didn't have the opportunity to test it in waters deeper than 200 ft, but for waters this deep, I must say it did its job. However, the fact that this unit was just black and white was a little bit unsatisfying for me, that's why I got a 788ci unit, with Down |
My experience with the 788ci HD DI Combo unit
Since it seemed to do its job, I decided to get a superior Hummingbird Depth Finder, with Down Imaging technology. I was quite curious about the photo-like clarity of the images. Therefore, I got a Hummingbird Fish Finder 788ci HD DI Combo.
This was way more useful than the first one I used. Not only that it allowed me to see clearly the contour of the bottom, the trees that passed under the boat and even see fish clearly, it also had advanced GPS features. The best thing I liked about the 788ci HD DI Combo was that I could create waypoints for the best fishing spots. |
My experience with the 998c SI Combo unit
The Hummingbird Fish Finder 998c SI Combo was just amazing. I must say that at this moment I feel kinda lost without it. Not only has all the advanced GPS features, the Side Imaging is just indispensable now for me. It's the best feature that a fish finder can have for finding fish. I allows you to see exactly where fish and certain structures or ditches are from your boat and covers a 480ft surface from side to side of your boat.
The Side Imaging is reliable in waters up to 200ft deep. But since the waters I fish in don't have more than 60-70 ft depths, this unit works just fine for me.
So, my final conclusion, if you want a super fish finder, look at the Hummingbird Fish Finders in 800, 900 and 1100 series which have SI technology. Although they are a bit expensive, they're worth every penny.
